9-9-2024 (JAKARTA) Indonesia is reaching out to world leaders for assistance in negotiating with financial institutions to expedite the retirement of coal-fired power plants and secure funding for its energy transition, according to a senior government official.
Luhut Pandjaitan, the minister overseeing mining in Southeast Asia’s largest economy, revealed this initiative during his address at the Coaltrans Asia conference in Bali on Monday. The move underscores Indonesia’s commitment to shifting away from its heavy reliance on coal towards cleaner energy sources.
Pandjaitan outlined the significant financial requirements for this ambitious transition, stating that Indonesia needs to raise a staggering $94.6 billion by 2030.
