7-8-2023 (JAKARTA) The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) is currently engaged in a promotional campaign for Indonesia’s tourist destinations through an exhibition called Expo Indonesia en Mexico 2023. The event aims to showcase the country’s diverse attractions and boost tourism from the American region, particularly Mexico.
With the Expo Indonesia en Mexico 2023, the ministry is providing a platform for players in the national tourism sector to engage in business-matching activities, interact with Mexican travel agents, and promote enticing tour packages to Indonesia’s renowned tourist destinations. Of particular focus are the country’s five super priority tourism destinations (DPSPs), which are expected to captivate visitors with their unique offerings.
Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno expressed his support for an art team composed of Indonesian diaspora in the American region, who will be performing at the exhibition. This initiative aims to showcase Indonesia’s cultural richness and create a memorable experience for attendees.
Ni Made Ayu Marthini, the Deputy of Marketing at the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, emphasized the government’s intention to leverage the exhibition to bolster the image of “Wonderful Indonesia,” the country’s national tourism brand. By disseminating information about the development of Indonesian tourist destinations and aligning with current trends and tourist preferences, the ministry aims to reaffirm the brand’s position as a top-of-mind choice for global travelers.
Marthini highlighted data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS) in 2022, which revealed the American region as a promising market for Indonesia’s tourism industry. Tourists from this region were found to spend an average of US$2,248 per visit, showcasing their potential as high-value customers. Additionally, American tourists tend to stay in Indonesia for an average of 17 nights, indicating a significant contribution to the local economy.
Furthermore, Marthini noted that Mexican tourists display a particular interest in engaging in adventurous activities immersed in nature. The attractions of exploring mountains and craters on Java and Bali islands, as well as encountering orangutans on Kalimantan Island, are especially appealing to this demographic.
The Expo Indonesia en Mexico 2023, themed “Reconnecting and Showcasing Wonderful Indonesia in the American Market,” is scheduled to take place at the Centro de Conveciones in Mexico from August 3 to 6. The event holds special significance as it commemorates the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Mexico. It is expected to attract approximately 10,000 visitors and serve as a platform for exhibiting trade and investment opportunities.
To ensure the smooth organization of the exhibition, Kemenparekraf is collaborating with key stakeholders, including the Indonesian Embassy in Mexico City, the Indonesian Trade Promotion Center in Mexico City, the Ministry of Trade, and the Ministry of Investment/Indonesian Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM).
