31-10-2023 (JAKARTA) President Joko Widodo, often referred to as Jokowi, has announced that the Indonesian government is set to dispatch its initial shipment of humanitarian aid to Palestine in response to the ongoing crisis. Speaking after presiding over a limited meeting on the issue at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, President Jokowi affirmed that the assistance would be tailored to meet the specific demands and requirements of the Palestinian people, with the first consignment scheduled for dispatch later this week.
This humanitarian aid has been sourced from multiple quarters, including the government, private sector entities, and the Indonesian public, as per the President’s statement. In a broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel, Jokowi conveyed Indonesia’s deep concern over the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza, primarily stemming from the Israel-Hamas conflict.
“Indonesia is very angry about the worsening situation in Gaza, especially the humanitarian situation,” he emphasized.
President Jokowi underlined the Indonesian government’s unwavering stance in condemning indiscriminate attacks on civilians and public infrastructure in Gaza, urging an immediate end to violence against non-combatants.
He stressed the importance of a sustained ceasefire and called for the expeditious delivery of humanitarian aid to Palestine. Furthermore, Jokowi disclosed that Indonesia is actively engaging with various stakeholders to seek a resolution to the ongoing crisis.
The limited meeting on Palestine held on Monday was attended by several key ministers, including Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi and Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD.
