9-1-2025 (JAKARTA) The government has inked a landmark memorandum of understanding with Qatari investment firm Qilaa International Group to construct one million homes, marking a crucial step towards fulfilling President Prabowo Subianto’s campaign pledge.
The agreement, signed on 8 January at the presidential palace, brings together Housing Minister Maruarar Sirait and Sheikh Abdulaziz Abdulrahman Al Thani, who chairs the Qatari investment group. President Prabowo personally witnessed the signing ceremony, underscoring the project’s importance to his administration’s agenda.
Under the terms of the agreement, the Indonesian government will provide the land for the housing developments, whilst the Qatari firm will take on both the construction responsibilities and financial backing for the ambitious project.
“Our primary focus is on urban dwellers from the lower middle class,” Minister Sirait told journalists following the ceremony. The initiative forms part of President Prabowo’s broader vision to deliver three million homes annually across Indonesia’s urban and rural landscapes, specifically targeting lower-middle-income families.
