27-6-2023 (JAKARTA) Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto has expressed Indonesia’s willingness to act as a mediator in the ongoing armed conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
Speaking after a meeting with President Joko Widodo at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Monday, Minister Prabowo emphasized Indonesia’s commitment to upholding international provisions and maintaining friendly relationships with all parties involved. He stated that Indonesia consistently strives to be a mediator and is closely monitoring the rapidly changing situation in the Ukraine-Russia conflict.
Minister Prabowo confirmed Indonesia’s readiness to mediate the conflict, provided both parties agree. He expressed the country’s determination to offer feasible suggestions towards resolving the dispute.
In his report to the President, Minister Prabowo discussed his recent visit to Europe, which included attending the 2023 International Paris Air Show in Le Bourget, Paris, France. He also informed President Widodo about the requests from several African countries seeking Indonesia’s assistance in training their defense forces.
“We will take appropriate follow-up actions,” Subianto stated, emphasizing Indonesia’s attentiveness to the current global situation and its efforts to formulate strategies for potential future events.
The minister plans to submit a comprehensive report on the conflict’s status to the President, who provided directives on how to address the global situation.
