1-9-2023 (SEOUL) Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law, and Security Affairs, Mahfud MD, has underscored the robust and distinct foundations that underpin the strategic partnership between Indonesia and South Korea.
In a statement released on the ministry’s website, Mahfud MD highlighted the shared values that bind the two nations, including a commitment to democracy, an open economy, a devotion to peace, a respect for human rights, and a dedication to upholding international law. He emphasized the potential for both countries to further strengthen their future-oriented collaboration, encompassing not only global issues but also vital bilateral matters.
Among the priority areas identified by the minister are energy, food, and infrastructure security, particularly in reference to the development of the Nusantara State Capital (IKN Nusantara). Mahfud also stressed the importance of deepening connections between communities through interactions involving parliaments, business communities, the arts, academia, and various other societal groups.
Mahfud MD conveyed this statement during an event commemorating the 78th anniversary of Indonesian independence and a diplomatic reception celebrating 50 years of cooperation between Indonesia and South Korea in Seoul on August 31. The minister served as the guest of honor at this event, which adopted the theme “Tighter Friendship, Stronger Partnership.”
In the same context, the Indonesian Ambassador to Seoul, Gandi Sulistiyanto, expressed optimism regarding the ongoing development of future-oriented cooperation, particularly in connection with the construction of Indonesia’s new capital, IKN. Sulistiyanto, who also delivered a speech at the event, bid farewell as his term of office in Seoul came to a close.
Additionally, Chairman of the Korea-Indonesia Parliamentary Friendship Committee, Kim Gi Hyeon, representing the Korean side, emphasized the increasing significance and strategic nature of the relationship between the two nations over the next five decades. According to Kim, the alliance between Indonesia and South Korea will have a positive impact on neighboring countries, playing a pivotal role in maintaining regional peace and fostering prosperity.
