19-10-2023 (SINGAPORE) India’s External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, is scheduled to visit Singapore from October 19 to 21, according to an announcement made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on October 18.
During his visit, Jaishankar will have meetings with prominent Singaporean leaders, including President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong, and Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean.
Exploring Collaborations in Digitalization and Skills Development
The visit by Jaishankar will serve as a platform for India and Singapore to explore potential collaborations in the fields of digitalization and skills development.
This collaborative effort aligns with the framework established by the India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable, initiated on September 17, 2022. The roundtable serves as a forum where both nations can investigate opportunities for mutually beneficial partnerships across various areas, including food security, energy security, digitalization, green technology, and skills development.
Reaffirming Strong Bilateral Ties
The visit by India’s External Affairs Minister will further solidify the “close and longstanding ties” that exist between Singapore and India. These ties are built upon a robust foundation of strategic trust, emphasizing the depth of the relationship between the two nations.
Additionally, the two countries will take the opportunity to review their bilateral cooperation and exchange insights into regional and global developments, underscoring their commitment to mutual progress.
Key Meetings During the Visit
While in Singapore, Jaishankar will meet with several Singaporean ministers, including Minister for Defence Ng Eng Hen, Minister for Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Home Affairs and Law K Shanmugam, and Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong.
