26-4-2024 (TAIPEI) In a somber turn of events, a significant Buddha statue in Henan Temple, Hualien, Taiwan, lost its head on April 24th, following tremors that rattled the region. Reports from 8world News indicate that the temple, grappling with safety concerns, has been temporarily shuttered.
The statue, a recent addition consecrated just last year, held a significant place in the temple’s landscape. Named Bhaisajyaguru, or the ‘Medicine Buddha’, it stood as a symbol of spiritual reverence and tranquility. Measuring an impressive 10 metres in height, the statue graced the temple grounds with its serene presence, mounted atop a lotus pedestal.

Tragically, the seismic activity that struck the area caused the statue’s head to break off, leaving behind a poignant reminder of the forces of nature. The loss of the Buddha’s head has deeply affected the local community, with sentiments of sorrow and reflection echoing across social media platforms.
Notably, the temple administration took swift action in response to the incident. On April 23rd, Henan Temple announced via Facebook the postponement of religious ceremonies and the temporary closure of the premises.
