28-10-2024 (JAKARTA) A disturbing hostage situation involving a four-year-old girl was resolved at the Pejaten Police Post in South Jakarta on Monday, as authorities arrested a 54-year-old man whose actions were reportedly triggered by methamphetamine-induced paranoid hallucinations.
The suspect, identified only as IJ, was revealed to be a business associate of the victim’s father. According to AKP Nurma Dewi, Head of Public Relations for the South Jakarta Metro Police, the man had been under the influence of crystal methamphetamine for four consecutive days prior to the incident.
“The suspect was experiencing severe paranoid delusions, believing he was being pursued by unknown individuals,” AKP Dewi explained during a press briefing. “In his drug-addled state, he convinced himself that holding a child would somehow protect him from his imaginary pursuers.”
The dramatic scene unfolded at the Pasar Minggu district police post, drawing crowds of onlookers and causing significant traffic disruption as passersby recorded the tense standoff. Amateur footage captured the suspect brandishing a sharp weapon while holding the young girl inside the police post.
Following the suspect’s successful arrest, mandatory drug screening confirmed the presence of methamphetamine in his system. “Laboratory tests definitively proved his recent drug use, corroborating his confession of a four-day methamphetamine binge,” AKP Dewi confirmed.
