25-7-2023 (JAKARTA) A delegation led by Hong Kong’s Chief Executive John Lee has embarked on a trip to Singapore and Indonesia to explore opportunities for economic cooperation between Hong Kong and the Southeast Asian region. The delegation comprises government officials and business leaders who are keen to strengthen ties with their counterparts in the region.
Upon arrival in Jakarta, Lee is scheduled to meet with senior officials from the Indonesian government and representatives from the Chinese embassy in Indonesia. In the evening, he will host a business dinner to promote trade and investment between Hong Kong and Indonesia. On 26th July, Lee will also attend a lunch meeting with local businessmen to discuss potential partnerships.
Indonesia is a member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), a regional economic bloc that includes countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam. Lee’s visit to Jakarta is part of a broader effort by Hong Kong to strengthen its ties with ASEAN and explore new opportunities for economic cooperation.

Following his visit to Indonesia, Lee will travel to Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, on 27th July. During his time in Malaysia, he is expected to hold similar meetings with government officials and business leaders to promote economic cooperation between Hong Kong and Malaysia.
The trip is part of a wider effort by Hong Kong to strengthen its economic ties with Southeast Asia and explore new opportunities for cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, and technology. The region is viewed as a key market for Hong Kong’s businesses, and the delegation’s visit is a testament to the city’s commitment to expanding its presence in the region.
