23-7-2023 (SINGAPORE) Hong Kong’s Chief Executive John Lee is currently visiting Singapore, marking his first official trip since taking on the role just over a year ago. The visit, which will last from Sunday (July 23) to Tuesday, comes at the invitation of Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).
During his visit, Lee will meet with the Prime Minister, who will host him to lunch, and with Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, who will host him to breakfast. In addition, Lee will speak at the “Singapore-Hong Kong: Partnering for Success” business dinner on Monday, alongside Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic Policies Heng Swee Keat. The event is jointly organised by the Hong Kong government and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council.
The visit to Singapore is the first leg of Lee’s week-long tour of ASEAN countries, where he will also visit Malaysia and Indonesia. Lee will be accompanied by five top officials and 30 leaders from various sectors, including finance, investment, business, legal, innovation and technology, and logistics, as reported by the South China Morning Post.
According to SCMP, Lee will use the trip to rally support for Hong Kong’s bid to join the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), the world’s largest free trade bloc.
