19-9-2023 (HONG KONG) Gin Lee, a Malaysian singer based in Hong Kong, has revealed her battle with mental health issues following the termination of her music contract with Universal Music.
The 36-year-old artist shared that for six months, she isolated herself at home due to overwhelming feelings of depression.
“During that time, I experienced inexplicable fear and anxiety. I was no longer signed with any labels, had no work, and consequently, had no income,” Lee disclosed to Hong Kong media. She further explained the difficulties she faced in supporting herself.
“I refrained from going out because I didn’t want to spend money. I ate whatever I could find at home. Occasionally, a friend would pretend to visit me, but their true intention was to bring me food,” she added.
When asked if she sought professional assistance for her mental health problems, Lee admitted that she did not.
“I didn’t have any money, and I lacked the courage to even leave my house. I felt physically drained and devoid of energy. Without a proper diagnosis, I’m uncertain about the specific emotional disorder I was experiencing,” she expressed.
Fortunately, the singer, originally from Johor, has found a new opportunity to revive her music career.
In January of this year, Lee signed a contract with Emperor Entertainment Group (EEG) and has since released several singles, including “Dum Dum” and “Trivial Matters Of Us.”
“I am fortunate to have a team at my new company who holds high expectations for me. They have put in tremendous effort to organize everything on my behalf. I am also giving my all to achieve results and show my gratitude towards them. I have been working tirelessly throughout the year,” Lee shared regarding her current situation.
