25-2-2024 (SINGAPORE) Two hikers who went missing on the morning of February 24 were successfully located after an hour-long search conducted by the Singapore police officers and the Gurkha contingent.
According to a Facebook post made by the police on February 24, they received a report around 11:40 am regarding the disappearance of two individuals in the forested area near Merryn Road, which is situated off Whitley Road.
The post stated, “Officers from Tanglin Division and Gurkha Contingent were swiftly deployed to locate the missing persons.”
Fortunately, the missing hikers were found unharmed at 12:55 pm, as confirmed by the police.
No further information regarding the hikers was provided by the police.
This incident follows a similar occurrence in April 2023 when two men went missing in the MacRitchie Nature Trail and Reservoir Park. During that search operation, which lasted only 15 minutes, officers from the National Parks Board and the national water agency PUB, along with the police and Gurkha contingent, were deployed. The search party utilized a boat to cross the reservoir and access the search zone from the coastline.
In light of these incidents, the police have advised the public to strictly adhere to designated trails while trekking to ensure their personal safety.
