14-6-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR)Â In a dramatic and deadly confrontation, Johor Bahru’s bustling city streets became the scene of an intense shootout between police and wanted criminals on Thursday afternoon. The gun battle resulted in the deaths of two suspects, both of whom were on the run from law enforcement.
The incident unfolded around 4:00 p.m. when police attempted to intercept the suspects in the city centre. According to reports, the fugitives resisted arrest and opened fire on the officers, prompting the police to retaliate.
Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene on Jalan Gombak, near the Holiday Plaza shopping complex. Social media footage, widely circulated after the incident, showed heavily armed tactical police officers discharging multiple rounds into the rear of a white sedan. The video also captured what appeared to be the deployment of smoke grenades, adding to the pandemonium.
The two deceased suspects, aged in their 30s and 40s, were believed to be involved in drug-related crimes and illegal possession of firearms. The police, as of now, have not released an official statement detailing the full circumstances of the event.
The Johor Bahru South District Police chief, Assistant Commissioner Raub, confirmed that an investigation is ongoing but refrained from providing further specifics.
