11-11-2023 (BANGKOK) Tragedy struck in the Klong Toey district of Bangkok on Saturday morning when a woman succumbed to gunshot wounds, while a man remains in critical condition following a violent outburst.
The incident occurred in front of a TMBThanachart Bank (TTB) branch located on Sunthornkosa Road. Shots were fired, resulting in two individuals sustaining severe injuries. A knife was also discovered at the scene.
Eyewitnesses disclosed that the gunfire erupted after an argument between two men and a group of university students. According to accounts, the assailants fled on a motorcycle down Rama IV Road.
A motorcycle taxi driver, who witnessed the incident, provided a statement to the police. He revealed that the two gunmen had parked their motorcycle near a bus stop where a group of four to five students were waiting. The pillion rider approached one of the students and aimed a firearm at his head.
Fortunately, the intended victim managed to evade the initial shot, causing it to strike a woman identified only as Sirada, a computer teacher at the nearby Sacred Heart Convent School. Tragically, the teacher suffered a fatal injury to her forehead and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Undeterred, the shooter fired another round, hitting his intended target in the stomach, before attempting to flee. At that moment, the motorcycle rider urged the gunman to complete the act, resulting in three more shots being fired at the student’s head and neck.
Law enforcement authorities are actively pursuing the assailants and suspect that the shooting may have been motivated by a university rivalry. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
