25-5-2023 (Singapore) Singapore-based ride-hailing giant Grab Holdings announced on Thursday that its co-founder, Tan Hooi Ling, will be stepping down from her operating roles within the company by the end of this year. Tan will transition into an advisory position, according to Grab.
Having co-founded Grab alongside CEO Anthony Tan in 2012, Hooi Ling played a pivotal role in shaping the growth of Southeast Asia’s largest ride-hailing and food delivery firm. The company’s success story began as an idea conceived during a Harvard Business School venture competition in 2011.
In an internal memo addressed to Grab employees, CEO Anthony Tan stated that the succession plan for Hooi Ling has been in the works for some time. Along with relinquishing her operating roles, she will also give up her board directorship.
The memo further clarified that Tan Hooi Ling will not be immediately replaced in her current position. The nominating committee will initiate the process of considering potential candidates to supplement the board later in the year.
As of now, Tan Hooi Ling leads Grab’s technology division and has served as a board member since the company’s public listing in December 2021.
