7-4-2024 (BANGKOK) The government has issued a cautionary advisory concerning the impending extreme heat expected in the upcoming days, urging citizens to refrain from prolonged outdoor activities due to the heightened risk of heatstroke.
According to the Meteorological Department’s daily weather forecast released on Saturday, a heat low-pressure cell has enveloped the northern regions of Thailand. Consequently, hot to very hot weather conditions, coupled with haze, are anticipated throughout the country during daytime hours.
The agency further stated that from April 8-11, elevated air pressure from China will extend to upper Thailand and the South China Sea. Concurrently, easterly and southeasterly winds will carry moisture from the South China Sea and the Gulf of Thailand to the upper part of the country, where temperatures are expected to soar.
“The possibility of a summer storm in the form of thunderstorms, accompanied by gusty winds and hail, is anticipated in the initial stage in the Northeast, with lightning strikes forecasted in certain areas. Subsequent stages may see other regions affected,” remarked the Meteorological Department.
Meanwhile, deputy government spokeswoman Kenika Ounjit highlighted the arrival of the summer season and the escalation of the heat index in many areas. Some regions have recorded temperatures as high as 44.5°C. Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has expressed concern for citizens susceptible to heatstroke and has issued a warning advising them to minimize sun exposure.
