He emphasized the government’s role in supporting Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to expand globally, ensuring that Indonesian cuisine remains authentic and not claimed by other countries.
Speaking from the Bakso Bara shop in Depok, West Java, Gibran praised the entrepreneurial spirit of young Indonesians and their aspirations to open culinary businesses abroad. He highlighted the importance of government support, such as facilitating permits and providing incentives, to help MSMEs thrive. Gibran cited Thailand as an example of a country that has successfully provided such assistance.
Gibran acknowledged that he had met with several culinary business owners who expressed their desire to compete internationally. He attributed the appeal of Indonesian food abroad to its distinct and delicious flavors. During his visit to Raffi Ahmad’s Rojo Sambel establishment last week, Gibran witnessed Raffi’s ambition to expand overseas. Gibran reiterated his commitment to expanding the market for Indonesian cuisine, emphasizing the need to protect its authenticity from foreign claims.
Expressing enthusiasm for Indonesian culinary’s potential, Gibran stated, “It feels good, especially if our dishes penetrate markets in Malaysia and other countries. It will definitely be well-received.” His visit to Depok, West Java, included a stop at a local meatball shop, where he interacted with traders and residents at the Jakarta Rumput Market. Accompanied by the owner of Bakso Bara, Gibran engaged in conversations about improving MSMEs and promoting Indonesian cuisine abroad.
