3-6-2024 (BERLIN) A 29-year-old police officer who was stabbed on Friday during an attack at a right-wing demonstration in Mannheim has died, authorities confirmed on Sunday.
The assailant, a 25-year-old man, attacked with a knife, severely injuring six people, according to the police in Baden-Württemberg, the German state where Mannheim is situated.
“He stabbed the police officer several times in the head,” stated the police report, noting that the officer underwent emergency surgery immediately after the incident and was placed in an induced coma. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries on Sunday.
Police responded by shooting and wounding the attacker.
The incident occurred during a livestream broadcast from central Mannheim on Friday, showing anti-Islam activist Michael Stürzenberger preparing to address a small crowd at an event organised by the Pax Europa Movement.
