3-8-2023 (LOS ANGELES) Gal Gadot, the beloved actress known for her portrayal of Wonder Woman, has revealed that a third installment of the superhero film is officially in development. While promoting her new Netflix movie “Heart Of Stone,” Gadot spoke to ComicBook.com’s Chris Killian and shared her excitement about reprising the iconic role.
“I love portraying Wonder Woman. It’s so close to and dear to my heart. From what I heard from James (Gunn) and from Peter (Safran) is that we’re gonna develop a Wonder Woman 3 together,” said Gadot during the interview.
The news comes several months after Gadot hinted that she might not be done playing the beloved Amazonian warrior. The interview took place before the Hollywood actors’ strike but was recently published, sparking anticipation among fans.
James Gunn, renowned for directing “Guardians Of The Galaxy,” and film producer Peter Safran currently hold the positions of co-chairmen and co-CEOs of DC Studios. They are responsible for overseeing a slate of films set in the new DC Universe (DCU), which effectively serves as a reboot to the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), where Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman was part of.
In early 2023, Gunn and Safran unveiled an impressive lineup of 10 upcoming DCU projects, including a Superman reboot starring David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan, as well as a Swamp Thing movie directed by James Mangold.
While Gadot’s announcement has been met with excitement by many fans, there has also been some criticism. Some fans expressed disappointment that Gadot can retain her DCEU role while Henry Cavill, widely loved for his portrayal of Superman, was not able to do the same. Cavill reprised his Superman role in a post-credits scene in “Black Adam” before being replaced weeks later.
As of now, James Gunn and Peter Safran have not confirmed Gadot’s claims, and no specific details about the movie have been officially released.
