22-12-2023 (SEOUL) South Korean rapper G-Dragon, recently cleared of allegations related to illegal drug use, is set to establish an anti-drug foundation, according to an announcement made by executives of his new agency, Galaxy Corporation. The revelation occurred during a press conference held at the JW Marriott Hotel on Thursday (Dec 21), with G-Dragon absent and the statement being read by Galaxy Corporation director Jo Sung-hae.
In the letter, shared on G-Dragon’s Instagram page, the artist, whose real name is Kwon Ji-young, expressed gratitude for the support received during a challenging period. The letter outlined his plans for the future and his motivation for establishing the foundation.
Reflecting on recent events, G-Dragon highlighted the prevalence of drug offenses, particularly among juveniles. He noted the limited access to treatment, emphasizing that less than 500 people could receive the necessary help. The rapper pledged to take action to assist those unable to access treatment, aiming to play a systematic role in protecting vulnerable individuals.
The foundation, as outlined in the letter, will focus on carrying out continuous activities to address social issues such as drug eradication and unfairness. G-Dragon aims to create a society where everyone is treated with fair respect, standing with those who suffer from prejudice and injustice. Through music and art activities, the foundation plans to contribute to solving social problems and nurturing the future generation.
Expressing his desire to eliminate prejudice, G-Dragon stated, “I want to create a world without prejudice by conducting peace campaigns with fans around the world. This is how we want to start 2024.” The artist concluded the letter by thanking his former agency, YG Entertainment, and his fans, announcing that the first donation to the foundation would be made in the name of VIPs, who are fans of BIGBANG.
Galaxy Corporation also disclosed G-Dragon’s upcoming plans, revealing that he is scheduled to make a comeback as a singer in 2024. Meanwhile, the agency issued a deadline of Dec 28 for the removal or modification of online posts containing false accusations regarding G-Dragon. Following the deadline, the agency emphasized a “no-tolerance policy” and the intention to take strong legal measures.
