30-6-2024 (SINGAPORE) The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) of Singapore announced on Sunday (June 30) that a 43-year-old Singaporean man, wanted for his suspected involvement in supplying drugs to associates in the country, has been apprehended and charged.
The man, who had been operating from overseas, had evaded authorities in Singapore since September 27, 2019. CNB revealed that the suspect’s alleged involvement in supplying drugs for subsequent trafficking and sale within the country came to light during investigations into a drug trafficking case in February 2021.
During the 2021 investigation, a 36-year-old Singaporean man was arrested with approximately 472 grams of heroin in his possession. This individual has since been convicted and sentenced for his role in the drug trafficking operation.
Determined to bring the 43-year-old fugitive to justice, CNB collaborated closely with its foreign counterparts, leveraging international cooperation to track down the suspect. “Following close cooperation between CNB and the Counter-Narcotics Police Department of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam to monitor the fugitive, on June 28, the man was deported and handed over to CNB,” the bureau stated.
Upon his arrival in Singapore, the man was promptly charged with drug trafficking in relation to the case involving the 39-year-old individual previously apprehended.
Deputy Director of CNB, Senior Assistant Commissioner Leon Chan, expressed his gratitude to the Counter-Narcotics Police Department (CNPD) of the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) of Vietnam for their “strong support” in facilitating the arrest.
“The close cooperation between CNB and CNPD in this operation is testament to the strong working relationship and trust that CNB has with CNPD, which resulted in the arrest of a Singaporean who believed he could carry on supplying drugs to associates in Singapore with impunity, simply by setting up base in Vietnam. He was badly mistaken,” Chan said.
Emphasizing CNB’s unwavering commitment to combating drug trafficking, Chan added, “CNB will pursue all leads and work closely with our foreign counterparts to apprehend such criminals and bring them to justice.”
