30-7-2024 (JAKARTA) Leo Bauthamy, a foreign visitor, was discovered lifeless in the waters off Pekon Walur Krui Beach in the Pesisir Barat Regency, as confirmed by local authorities on Monday.
AKBP Alsyahendra, the Pesisir Barat Police Chief, verified the unfortunate incident, stating, “We can confirm that a French citizen was found deceased, having drowned at Walur Krui Beach. His body was recovered at approximately 14:00 local time.”
The grim discovery came after an intensive search operation, initiated when Mr Bauthamy was reported missing by his travelling companion the previous day. According to Alsyahendra, the Frenchman had been lodging at a nearby inn and had ventured out for a spot of spearfishing on Sunday.
“Mr Bauthamy had informed his friend of his intentions to go fishing before departing,” the Police Chief explained. “When he failed to return, fellow residents alerted the authorities. Initially, only the motorbike he had hired for his beach excursion was located, prompting a thorough search that ultimately led to this sorrowful outcome.”
The circumstances surrounding Mr Bauthamy’s drowning remain unclear, and local law enforcement are conducting a thorough investigation into the incident. The tranquil shores of Pekon Walur Krui Beach, typically a haven for tourists seeking sun and surf, have been cast in a sombre light following this tragic event.
In the wake of the discovery, authorities have transported Mr Bauthamy’s remains to a local hospital. Police are now working in close coordination with immigration officials to establish contact with the deceased’s family in France.
“We have commenced the necessary procedures,” Alsyahendra added. “Our team is liaising with immigration services to facilitate the repatriation of Mr Bauthamy’s body to his homeland.”
