3-1-2025 (KUALA LUMPUR) 4 concertgoers lost their lives after allegedly consuming Ecstasy pills, with three others requiring urgent medical attention, Selangor’s top police official revealed today.
According to Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, the victims fell unconscious between 10:45 PM and 3 AM during the Pinkfish countdown concert in Bandar Sunway. First responders provided immediate treatment before rushing them to hospital, where four subsequently died.
“Our preliminary investigation indicates all victims had consumed Ecstasy tablets during the event,” Hussein told reporters at Selangor police headquarters. “We believe some attendees purchased the drugs prior to the concert, whilst others obtained them on-site.”
The investigation has uncovered that dealers were allegedly selling Ecstasy pills at RM50 each or three for RM100, prompting a wider probe into the drug distribution network at the venue.
In a scathing assessment of event security, Hussein criticised the concert organisers for failing to implement adequate safety measures, particularly regarding drug prevention. “The organisers demonstrated a clear inability to prevent both the sale and consumption of illegal substances during the event,” he stated.
The incident has prompted authorities to announce stricter concert licensing requirements. “Moving forward, organisers must demonstrate robust security protocols, specifically addressing drug prevention, before receiving approval. We cannot permit events that jeopardise public safety,” Hussein emphasised.
Questions have also emerged regarding crowd management, with police investigating potential overcrowding. “Our records show 14,000 tickets were sold, but the actual attendance likely exceeded this figure when accounting for security and medical personnel,” Hussein noted.
Currently, two survivors remain in intensive care, while one has been discharged. The police are awaiting toxicology reports to confirm the exact cause of death and have opened four separate investigation papers.
Authorities are continuing to gather evidence, with six witness statements recorded thus far. Hussein has appealed to the public for any information regarding the incident, urging witnesses to contact either the Subang Jaya district police headquarters or their nearest police station.
