29-8-2023 (SINGAPORE) Organisers of the 2023 Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix have predicted a 17 percent drop in attendance for this year’s event, primarily due to the temporary closure of the Bay Grandstand as part of the redevelopment of The Float @ Marina Bay.
The night race, scheduled from September 15 to September 17, is expected to attract approximately 250,000 spectators. This figure reflects a decrease from the record high of 302,000 attendees in the previous year, but it remains consistent with the average attendance since the race’s inception in 2008.
According to Adam Firth, the executive director of Singapore GP, the organisers had always anticipated challenges in replacing the inventory, especially given the limitations of a street circuit. Nonetheless, they have successfully secured 10,000 tickets with exciting new viewing options for fans.
With preparations well underway, race organisers have affirmed that demand for tickets remains robust. As of now, 16 out of 23 ticket categories have sold out, and only limited availability remains for the remaining five categories. Furthermore, nearly all hospitality packages have been booked, with only a few seats remaining at the Vista Suite and Pit Entry Lounge hospitality suites.
The Marina Bay Street Circuit event is gearing up to host a significant number of visitors, with hotels in the vicinity already experiencing high demand for bookings. Singapore renewed its hosting rights for the F1 race for the fourth time in January 2022, extending the contract by a record seven years, taking into account factors like the post-pandemic travel recovery.
Despite an anti-corruption probe involving Singapore GP chairman Ong Beng Seng and the country’s transport minister, race promoters have assured that the investigation will not impede their planning and preparations for this annual event.
