12-7-2023 (BANGKOK) Former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has announced that he will not be returning to Thailand just yet to avoid any political unrest, according to his daughter, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, on Wednesday (July 12). The youngest daughter of Thaksin, who is also the PM candidate for the Pheu Thai Party, stated that her father’s return would happen soon after the original July plan, and he was waiting for the political situation to stabilize first.
While many believe that Thaksin’s return is related to politics, he has told the press that it is not the case. His delay is due to the state of politics in Thailand, and he wants to ensure that Thai politics will run smoothly before his return to solve political problems.
Thaksin, who is now 73 years old, fled the country in 2008 to avoid jail after his government was ousted in a military coup on September 19, 2006. He was later found guilty in four corruption cases and sentenced to a total of 12 years in prison.
