25-8-2023 (GEORGIA) Former President Donald Trump made his return to the social media sphere with his first post since his ban from Twitter on January 6th, 2021. The post was shared on his newly reinstated X account, formerly known as Twitter, and featured the same mug shot graphic that he had previously shared on Truth Social, accompanied by no caption.
After the Capitol insurrection in 2021, Twitter banned Trump from the platform. However, Elon Musk, who assumed control of the tech platform, reinstated Trump’s account in November 2022 following the results of an online poll.
Trump, who has been embroiled in multiple criminal indictments this year, was recently indicted by a Fulton County grand jury on August 14th. The indictment encompassed over a dozen felonies, ranging from conspiracy to commit forgery to racketeering. District Attorney Fani Willis set a deadline for Trump and his alleged co-conspirators to surrender by noon on Friday, with several individuals already complying.
Georgia law enforcement officials have emphasized treating Trump like any other inmate processed through the Fulton County Jail. As a result, he was subjected to having his mug shot taken, a procedure that had not been carried out by any other jurisdiction handling his case until now. Trump surrendered as expected, without incident, at approximately 7:30 PM ET.
Shortly after his surrender, the highly anticipated mug shot of Trump was released to the public. Former Trump attorney Kenneth Chesebro, a co-defendant, was granted a speedy trial scheduled for October 23rd. However, DA Fani Willis requested an earlier trial start for all co-defendants, although Chesebro’s new trial date only applies to him.
Trump and his legal team objected to Willis’ proposed trial date of October 23rd for all co-defendants. They expressed their intention to separate Trump’s case from that of any co-defendants seeking similar demands.
Following his arrest at Fulton County Jail, Trump briefly addressed reporters at Atlanta’s airport. He claimed election interference and expressed gratitude for their presence while maintaining his innocence, stating, “We did nothing wrong at all.” He described the criminal case against him as a “travesty of justice” and referred to the three other criminal cases brought against him this year, asserting that challenging dishonest elections was within his rights.
Trump has now been officially entered into the Fulton County Jail database under the prisoner number P01135809. Fulton County’s official jail records list all 13 charges against him, including a RICO violation, conspiracy charges, and filing false documents.
