23-8-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) Exactly one year has passed since former Prime Minister Najib Razak began serving his 12-year sentence at Kajang Prison. This sentence followed his conviction for misappropriating RM42 million in SRC International funds, despite numerous appeals.
In a post on his Facebook account today, Najib commemorated his one-year milestone with a poignant poem. This heartfelt composition provides a glimpse into his emotions and daily life behind bars.
The post included a caption featuring a four-stanza poem that encapsulated Najib’s experiences and reflections during his year-long incarceration. In his words:
“Prayer rugs have become my companion as I perform prayers five times daily, asking God for His mercy to lighten my burden.
“When daytime finally turns into night, I would read the Koran in the silent and tranquil night.”
Najib also expressed a sense of loneliness during his time in prison, despite finding solace in the belief that God remained by his side, never abandoning His servants.
This poignant poem serves as a poignant reminder of Najib Razak’s ongoing legal battles and the personal challenges he faces as he serves his sentence.
