28-2-2025 (MANILA) Former Mayor Abdulazis Tadua Aloyodan of Lumbaca-Unayan met a violent end in broad daylight outside his residence on Wednesday.
The brazen attack, executed by an assailant from a pickup truck near the municipal headquarters, claimed the life of Aloyodan, who was the spouse of the current mayor. Despite swift medical intervention, physicians were unable to save the former public servant, who succumbed to grievous gunshot injuries.
Governor Mamintal Alonto Adiong, Jr. expressed profound dismay at the loss of his colleague, characterising Aloyodan as a passionate public servant whose dedication to Lumbaca-Unayan remained unwavering. In his poignant statement, the Governor emphasised the pressing need to challenge the normalisation of violence, particularly as the election season approaches.
Law enforcement has mobilised a specialised investigative unit to probe the assassination, exploring potential links to both electoral tensions and traditional family feuds, known locally as ‘rido’. The current mayor, Aloyodan’s widow, has maintained silence in the immediate aftermath of the tragedy.
