17-1-2024 (SINGAPORE) A recent Facebook post by an anonymous individual, who previously worked as a lecturer in Malaysia, has gained attention for highlighting their decision to work as a cleaner in Singapore and earn significantly more income. The post, shared on the Facebook group ‘Muflis Bankrupt di Malaysia‘ or ‘Bankrupt in Malaysia,’ has since been deleted, but screenshots have circulated online.
The individual explained that as a lecturer at a private higher education institution (IPTS) in Malaysia, they earned a monthly salary of RM1,900 (approximately S$541.35). However, after working in the teaching profession for five years, they found it challenging to manage their finances. Rising living costs, coupled with their stagnant salary, meant that they struggled to make ends meet and often ran out of funds before the month’s end.
Faced with this difficult financial situation, the individual made the decision to seek employment in Singapore. They eventually secured a cleaning job that pays S$3,100 per month. At the time, they were burdened with a significant amount of debt, and taking up a cleaning job in Singapore served as a “shortcut” to alleviate their financial troubles.
In their post, the individual encouraged others facing similar predicaments to consider applying for jobs in Singapore, highlighting the comparatively higher salaries that can be obtained.
