16-10-2023 (BEIJING) Love can lead people to make extraordinary choices, as demonstrated by a former model in China who intentionally gained 35kg within a month to please her boyfriend, as reported by the South China Morning Post.
In an interview with Ruimu Video on October 9, the young woman, referred to as Zeng, revealed that she weighed around 50kg before she met her then-boyfriend, Wei.
The duration of their relationship remains unclear, but Zeng shared that last April, Wei expressed his preference for chubby women, claiming that all his ex-girlfriends were overweight.
Their WeChat conversation revealed Wei asking Zeng if she could increase her weight to 65kg or 75kg. “Don’t worry, you are free to eat as much as possible,” he added.
When Zeng asked if he liked her or plump women, Wei responded, “I like it when you’re chubby.”
Believing that gaining weight would solidify their relationship, Zeng embarked on a journey to gain the desired pounds. However, her efforts were in vain. Not only did she lose modeling opportunities, but she was also ultimately dumped by her boyfriend.

In August of last year, Wei informed Zeng via WeChat that he was breaking up with her, stating that he “enjoyed his freedom.” He proceeded to block her on the social media app.
Although Zeng has since shed the extra weight following the breakup, her story has left netizens stunned.
“This story is too outrageous to be true,” commented one netizen, while another referred to Wei as a “devil.” Some even expressed concern about Zeng’s rapid weight gain, questioning the feasibility of gaining 35kg in just one month.
Their concerns are justified, as rapid weight gain can pose health risks such as high blood pressure and heart failure, according to Healthline.
Healthline explained that gaining weight rapidly often leads to excessive fat gain, whereas a slower, controlled approach combined with resistance training can prioritize muscle gains.
The rate at which an individual gains weight depends on various factors, including goals, body size, sex, and daily calorie intake.
For those seeking to gain weight in a healthier manner, Healthline suggests increasing daily calorie intake by 500 calories, which could result in an average weight gain of about 6.8kg over six months.
