4-1-2024 (JAKARTA) The latest data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS) reveals that by November 2023, the number of foreign tourist arrivals had reached 10.4 million, marking a remarkable increase of 110.86 percent compared to the same period in 2022.
Acting Head of BPS, Amalia Widyasanti, presented the report during the Official Statistical News Release, which was monitored online on Tuesday.
While the surge in arrivals is significant compared to 2022, Widyasanti highlighted that the figures for November 2023 still fell short of the pre-pandemic levels recorded in the same period of 2019, which saw 14.7 million arrivals.
In November 2023 alone, Indonesia welcomed 917.41 thousand foreign tourists, indicating a 30.17 percent increase compared to the corresponding month in the previous year. However, this figure represented a 6.24 percent decline when compared to October 2023.
The majority of foreign tourists arriving in Indonesia in November 2023 hailed from Malaysia, with 141.8 thousand arrivals, followed by Singapore with 118 thousand arrivals, and Australia with 117.1 thousand arrivals.
Regarding the average length of stay, foreign tourists spent approximately 8.68 nights in Indonesia during November 2023. In terms of entry points, I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali remained the most popular gateway for foreign tourists, accounting for 43.2 percent of all arrivals.
“Foreign tourists entering through I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport recorded the highest number, with 396.2 thousand arrivals, representing 43.2 percent. Australia was the dominant contributor, accounting for 26.4 percent,” Widyasanti noted.
Other popular entry points in November included Soekarno Hatta International Airport in Banten and Hang Nadim International Airport in the Riau Islands.
