14-9-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR) Local authorities report the arrest of a 25-year-old foreign national accused of sexually assaulting and robbing a 71-year-old woman. The incident, which occurred in a residential apartment complex, has left residents grappling with concerns over safety and security.
Assistant Commissioner Wan Kamarul, the Sepang district police chief, provided details of the harrowing event. According to his statement, law enforcement received an emergency call at 12:18 AM, alerting them to the attack. The elderly victim was reportedly waiting for a lift to return to her flat when she was accosted by the young man, who forcibly dragged her to a stairwell where the assault took place.
The assailant not only committed a sexual assault but also robbed the victim of her personal belongings. The police chief confirmed that the stolen items included the woman’s handbag and mobile phone.
Following a swift and intensive 12-hour manhunt, authorities successfully apprehended the suspect at approximately 12:20 PM in the Seri Kembangan area. The stolen items were recovered during the arrest, providing crucial evidence for the ongoing investigation.
Preliminary inquiries have revealed that the accused was employed at a local eatery. Assistant Commissioner Wan Kamarul stated that the police intend to bring the suspect before the Sepang Magistrate’s Court to seek a remand order, allowing for further investigation and questioning.
The case is currently being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape and Section 392 for robbery. These charges reflect the gravity of the offences and the potential for severe legal consequences if the accused is found guilty.
