15-11-2023 (HANOI) The ancient city of Hue in central Vietnam faced severe flooding on Wednesday (November 15) as torrential rains triggered floods, submerging thousands of homes and blocking major roads.
Wu An, a resident of Hue, informed Agence France-Presse (AFP), “The city is flooded everywhere, and the water level has risen very rapidly since Tuesday night; power has been cut off.”
Starting on Monday (November 13), several coastal provinces in Vietnam experienced heavy rainfall, with over 1,300 homes flooded in Quang Tri province and the city of Da Nang. The deluge also triggered landslides, blocking sections of the highway that connects the southern and northern regions. Images from local media depict many houses and cars submerged in water, with residents navigating the flooded streets by boat.
Authorities reported that the torrential rains have forced over 2,000 people to evacuate in the central province of Quang Tri, with three individuals reported missing. Among the missing are a couple believed to have been swept away while searching for goats, and another man who disappeared while fishing.
Official data reveals that natural disasters such as floods and landslides have claimed the lives of 136 people and led to disappearances in the first ten months of this year.
