9-12-2024 (BANGKOK) Five men were found dead inside a fermentation tank at a fish processing facility in Thailand’s northern Phetchabun province, prompting a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding their deaths.
The discovery was made on Monday evening at a fermented fish plant situated in the Nong Khwai subdistrict of Lom Sak. The deceased were identified as Lam, 69, Lad, 68, Jakkrit Senanut, 50, Hia Wan, and Suparerk Chatchuea, 30.
Events leading to the discovery began when a 66-year-old woman, described as a family friend of the plant owner, contacted emergency services through the 191 hotline, reporting that the owner had lost contact with his son-in-law and workers at the facility. Responding to the call, patrol officers from Lom Sak Police Station arrived at the premises at approximately 5pm, where they located the bodies within the fermentation tank.
Preliminary enquiries revealed that the workers had been instructed to clean the tank prior to the loss of communication. The circumstances surrounding how all five individuals came to be in the tank are currently under investigation.
Detective Inspector Somchai Thongdee confirmed that a full investigation is underway: “Our forensic team is conducting a thorough examination of the scene. We are exploring all possible scenarios and gathering evidence to determine the exact sequence of events that led to these deaths.”
