8-1-2025 (JAKARTA) A local fisherman has hauled in a colossal grouper weighing an astounding 164 kilogrammes off the coast of Sape, marking a remarkable milestone in his 14-year fishing career.
Arifudin, 28, from Gusung Hamlet in Bugis Village, made the extraordinary catch whilst fishing with his uncle Suaeb in the Sape Sea. The mammoth fish was so enormous that it required a cart for transportation after being brought ashore.
“In all my years at sea, dating back to my secondary school days, I’ve never encountered a grouper of this magnitude,” Arifudin told local reporters, still visibly amazed by his catch.
The landing of the massive fish proved to be a challenging endeavour, requiring the combined efforts of five fishermen to successfully haul it aboard the vessel. “The sheer size and weight of the fish made it impossible for just my uncle and me to manage alone,” he explained.
Once safely aboard, the next hurdle was transporting the behemoth to market. The fish’s extraordinary dimensions necessitated the use of a wheeled cart to move it from the harbour to the point of sale.
The exceptional catch fetched a handsome sum of 6.5 million Indonesian rupiah (approximately $400), with the fish valued at 40,000 rupiah per kilogramme.
