5-9-2023 (WASHINGTON) In an announcement made by the White House on Monday, it was revealed that the U.S. First Lady, Jill Biden, has tested positive for COVID-19. She is currently experiencing mild symptoms, while President Joe Biden has tested negative for the virus.
According to Elizabeth Alexander, the First Lady’s communications director, Jill Biden, who is 72 years old, had previously contracted COVID-19 in August of last year. President Biden, who is now 80, last tested positive for the virus in July 2022.
In a statement, Alexander said, “This evening, the First Lady tested positive for COVID-19. She will remain at their home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.”
On Monday evening, President Biden flew back alone from Delaware, where the couple’s home is located.
Following the news of the First Lady’s positive test, the White House confirmed that President Biden underwent a COVID-19 test. The results came back negative. The President will continue to be tested regularly throughout the week and closely monitor for any symptoms.
The White House has not provided further details on the First Lady’s condition or how she may have contracted the virus.
