18-2-2024 (NEW DELHI) A tragic incident unfolded in the southern state of Tamil Nadu as an explosion, triggered by a fire, ripped through a fireworks factory, leaving ten workers dead and 15 others injured. The cause of the fire remains unknown, as police work to unravel the circumstances behind the devastating incident.
Feroze Khan Abdullah, a police officer, reported that the fire was swiftly brought under control, but the toll was already severe. Among the injured, five have been hospitalized for treatment.
This unfortunate event sheds light on the prevalent issue of factory accidents in India, where safety regulations are often ignored, and establishments operate without proper permits. The incident follows closely on the heels of another tragedy in India’s capital, New Delhi, where 11 laborers lost their lives in a paint factory fire.
Earlier this month, a blast at a fireworks factory in central Madhya Pradesh resulted in eight deaths and 80 injuries. Such incidents underscore the urgent need for stricter safety measures and enforcement in industrial settings across the country.
India has a history of factory fires, with one of the deadliest occurring in 1985 at a school in Haryana, claiming the lives of 442 people, including 258 children.
