11-11-2024 (BANGKOK) A popular resort in Bang Saray, Chonburi province, suffered significant damage in a evening blaze on Sunday, resulting in losses estimated at 2 million baht (approximately $58,300).
The incident, which occurred at approximately 7:55 PM, prompted a swift response from Kled Kaew Municipality’s fire brigade, with six fire engines dispatched to the scene. Fire crews battled the intense flames for nearly an hour before bringing the situation under control.
The 47-year-old resort owner, who was present during the incident, reported first noticing a burning smell before discovering flames engulfing the wooden residential quarters. Despite attempting to combat the fire with an extinguisher, the blaze spread rapidly. The owner managed to salvage some valuables, including cash and gold, before the structure was consumed by flames.
Yoswat Phuwaratlertkhun, Mayor of Kled Kaew Municipality, indicated that preliminary investigations suggest an electrical short circuit in decorative lighting fixtures as the likely cause. “The wooden construction of the affected building contributed to the rapid spread of the fire,” he explained. “Fortunately, our emergency services’ quick response prevented the fire from spreading to other parts of the resort.”
The establishment, known for its accommodation and café facilities, is particularly popular among international tourists. While the fire caused substantial damage to the owner’s private quarters, no injuries were reported among staff or guests.
Local authorities have announced plans to conduct a detailed damage assessment, with forensic experts from Chonburi’s Evidence Center 2 scheduled to examine the site. The municipality has also pledged to provide initial assistance to those affected by the incident.
Police investigators from Sattahip Police Station are continuing their enquiries into the exact circumstances surrounding the fire.
