While the film is packed with star power, there was one particular cameo that delighted Filipinos around the globe.
Filipino-French beauty queen Julia Saubier, known for representing Albay at Miss Universe Philippines 2022, made a special appearance during the movie’s introduction. The opening sequence, narrated by the legendary Helen Mirren, featured various Barbie dolls from different eras, paying homage to Stanley Kubrick’s “2001: A Space Odyssey.”
Saubier portrayed the 1971 version of Barbie, aptly dubbed “Hippie Barbie” in the movie. She stood alongside other women, representing Barbie as a fashion designer, registered nurse, astronaut, and even the iconic “totally hair” version.
Ecstatic about her unexpected on-screen presence with Margot Robbie, Saubier took to Instagram to share behind-the-scenes photos and express her gratitude for being part of such an iconic film. Fellow beauty queens, including Hannah Arnold, Katarina Rodriguez, Kali Navea-Huff, and Jedidah Korinihona, congratulated Saubier for her exciting cameo in “Barbie.”
Born in France, Saubier is a graduate of New York University Abu Dhabi and a Yenching Scholar at the Yenching Academy of Peking University. With a passion for acting, she pursued the craft in both universities. In Miss Universe Philippines 2022, she made it to the Top 10, while Celeste Cortesi clinched the crown. Saubier also won Best National Costume and was one of the four winners of the Interview Challenge. Prior to that, she competed in Binibining Pilipinas 2019.
Currently residing in London, United Kingdom, Saubier continues to pursue her acting career and has completed her studies at the Identity School of Acting. She also possesses skills in martial arts, making her a versatile talent with a promising future in the entertainment industry.
