18-6-2023 (MANILA) A ferry carrying 65 individuals caught fire on Sunday morning off the coast of Bohol province in the central Philippines, according to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).
The M/V Esperanza Star was engulfed in flames at approximately 4:30 a.m. local time (2030 GMT) near Panglao Island. PCG spokesperson Armando Balilo confirmed the incident and stated that no casualties were reported.
The PCG, in collaboration with authorities, is currently investigating the cause of the fire. Ferry accidents are unfortunately not uncommon in the Philippines, given its archipelagic nature in Southeast Asia.
Efforts are underway to ensure the safety of passengers and prevent any further incidents.
