11-7-2023 (NEW YORK) Former FTX cryptocurrency exchange executive, Ryan Salame, is under investigation by federal prosecutors for possible violations of campaign finance law, according to sources cited by the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday. Prosecutors are reportedly examining money that Salame provided to his girlfriend, Michelle Bond, who unsuccessfully ran for the Republican nomination for a congressional seat in New York last year. They are also looking into loans that Bond made to her campaign.
Neither Salame nor Bond has been accused of any wrongdoing, and their lawyers have not commented on the matter. A spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney’s office in Manhattan declined to comment.
The investigation is said to be separate from the criminal case against FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried, who has pleaded not guilty to stealing billions of customer funds ahead of the now-bankrupt exchange’s collapse last year. Bankman-Fried is set to go on trial on October 2.
