28-12-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) A tragic incident unfolded on the shores of Desaru, Malaysia, as a father and his son were swept away by powerful waves while enjoying a day at the beach. The 16-year-old son managed to be rescued, but his 49-year-old father remains missing, leaving their family in distress.
Hailing from Singapore, the father and son were spending time together at the popular Westin Desaru Coast Beach Resort in Bandar Penawar, Johor on December 27, 2023, when the incident occurred around 12:33 pm. Reports from local media confirm their Singaporean origin.
According to witnesses, the 16-year-old encountered trouble while swimming due to the strong undercurrents present in the area. Fortunately, members of the public who were present at the scene promptly responded to the distressing situation and managed to rescue the teenager. He was then swiftly transported to Kota Tinggi Hospital for medical attention, as reported by China Press.
Masri Ibrahim, the operations commander of Penawar Fire and Rescue Department, revealed that the father and son were engaging in recreational activities on the beach before the unfortunate turn of events took place. Eyewitness accounts suggest that the man was overcome by the forceful current, disappearing from sight without a trace. Thankfully, the quick actions of the public saved the 16-year-old before the arrival of the rescue team.
