17-8-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) A shocking case has emerged from Malaysia, where a father has been handed a staggering sentence of 702 years in prison and 234 strokes of the cane for the rape and sexual assault of his own daughters. The distressing incident took place in two houses in Muar, Johor state, over a period of six years. The South China Morning Post reported that one of the girls even became pregnant as a result of the abuse.
The 53-year-old man, whose identity remains undisclosed, pleaded guilty to 19 charges of rape and 11 charges of sexual assault against his two daughters during a court hearing on Monday (Aug 14).
However, despite the severity of his crimes, the man will serve a maximum of only 42 years in prison, calculated from his arrest date of July 10. In addition, he will receive the highest number of legal lashes, which is 24.
During the proceedings, the man, who did not have legal representation, appealed for a lighter sentence, claiming remorse over his actions, as reported by the New Straits Times.
Nevertheless, the judge swiftly dismissed his plea, emphasizing the gravity of the offences committed against the vulnerable victims. “The victim at that time was a child, and the offences you committed were very serious,” the judge stated. “I hope that with this sentence, you will repent and learn from the mistakes that have been made.”
Deputy public prosecutor Danial Munir also advocated for a severe penalty, highlighting the lifelong trauma inflicted upon the man’s two daughters, now aged 12 and 15.
In response to the court’s decision, the man simply said, “I accept the punishment for my actions.”
