15-11-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR) A devastating collision involving a heavy goods vehicle, a car, and a motorcycle on the North-South Expressway has left one dead and two injured in the early hours of this morning.
The incident occurred at approximately 7:43 AM at the 69.5-kilometre marker northbound, near Kluang District, when a 40-tonne Volvo trailer lorry reportedly lost control, leading to a chain reaction collision with a Honda Civic and a Yamaha MT09 motorcycle.
Mohammad Adi, 33, from Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, who was riding the motorcycle, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. The occupants of the Honda Civic, identified as Feng Guozheng, 25, and Lin Meihui, 26, both from Segamat, Johor, sustained injuries in the crash, with one occupant requiring extraction from the vehicle. Their one-year-old baby was also in the car but was unharmed.
Simpang Renggam Fire and Rescue Department Director Mohammad Niza told reporters that emergency services arrived at the scene at 8:36 AM. The 40-year-old lorry driver from Kuala Lumpur emerged unscathed from the incident.
Operations Commander Abdul Rahim reported that preliminary investigations suggest the container lorry lost its balance, causing its cargo to topple onto the motorway. However, traffic police are continuing their investigation into the precise circumstances of the crash.
The victim’s body has been transferred to police custody for further investigation, and emergency services completed their on-site operations by 9:11 AM.
This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance on Malaysia’s busy expressways, particularly in sections frequented by heavy goods vehicles. The North-South Expressway, being one of the country’s primary transportation arteries, has seen its share of serious accidents in recent years.
Authorities are urging motorists to exercise caution while investigations into this fatal collision continue.
