20-11-2023 (YANGON) A tragic incident unfolded behind a steel factory in Insein township, Yangon, resulting in two fatalities and three injuries as a ship carrying cement caught fire, according to information provided by a rescue organization official on Sunday (Nov 19).
The blaze, which ignited on the double-deck vessel, was eventually extinguished. However, the aftermath revealed the grim discovery of two deceased individuals inside the ship’s oil storage tank, reported U Thurein Tun to Xinhua. In response to the emergency, 15 rescue organizations swiftly mobilized for operations at the scene.
The Insein Township Fire Services Department official informed Xinhua that the investigation into the number of casualties is still ongoing. The ship fire’s origin was traced back to an explosion in the oil storage tank, which occurred during welding activities.
