27-8-2023 (BUCHAREST) Tragedy struck the Romanian town of Crevedia, situated near the capital city Bucharest, as two explosions rocked a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) station on Saturday, resulting in one fatality and 46 individuals hospitalized.
The initial explosion ignited a fire that swiftly engulfed two gas tanks and a nearby residence, necessitating the evacuation of an area spanning 700 meters. Additionally, traffic on the national road was brought to a standstill, reported the government’s emergency response unit (IGSU).
Later in the day, a second explosion occurred at the LPG station, leading to injuries sustained by 26 firefighters, as confirmed by Deputy Interior Minister Raed Arafat, who oversees the emergency response unit.
Among the 46 individuals injured, eight were placed on intubation due to the severity of their burns, as stated by government authorities.

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, following an emergency meeting with relevant state agencies involved in managing the crisis, informed reporters that it was likely that four of the injured patients would be transferred to hospitals in Italy and Belgium for further treatment.
Despite the deployment of 25 fire engines at the scene, the fire had not been completely extinguished, and concerns remained regarding additional explosions. A third tank at the site presented an ongoing risk, according to Arafat.
