29-12-2024 (BANGKOK) A road accident on the outskirts of Chaiyaphum city claimed one life and left two others seriously injured when a sedan collided with a tour bus late Friday night, just days before New Year celebrations.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:10 PM on the Chaiyaphum-Kaeng Khro Road when a black Ford sedan inexplicably veered across lanes, colliding with an oncoming Chai Air tour bus carrying more than 40 passengers bound for Rayong from Loei province.
The collision resulted in the death of 30-year-old Ms Nittaya, whilst two other occupants of the sedan, including the 55-year-old driver Mr Niam, sustained serious injuries. Emergency services rushed the survivors to Chaiyaphum Hospital for urgent medical attention.
Tour bus driver Sittichok, 51, recounted the harrowing moments leading to the crash. “I spotted the sedan crossing into our lane suddenly. I attempted to swerve away, but the steering wheel malfunctioned,” he explained. “We ended up off the road, but thankfully none of my passengers were hurt.”
Superintendent Pol. Col. Prasit Premkomol, who led the investigation at the scene, confirmed that breathalyser tests conducted on the tour bus driver showed zero alcohol content. Alternative transport arrangements were swiftly made for the uninjured tour bus passengers to continue their journey to Rayong.
“We are currently awaiting the recovery of the sedan’s occupants before conducting detailed interviews,” stated Pol. Col. Premkomol. “CCTV footage from the vicinity will be examined to determine the precise cause of this unfortunate incident.”
