18-1-2025 (HANOI) 4 members of a family were discovered dead in their home in Kim Long Trung village, Phu Xuyen district, whilst the family patriarch remains unaccounted for.
The victims were identified as a 79-year-old grandmother, her daughter-in-law aged approximately 50, and two teenagers aged 17 and 19. The head of the household, Mr V., known locally for his bamboo weaving trade, has not been seen since the discovery.
The grim discovery was made around 14:00 hours on 17th January when the elderly victim’s daughter arrived to perform routine housekeeping duties. Upon finding her mother dead in bed, further investigation revealed the bodies of three other family members in a separate bedroom.
Village head Vu Van Chung confirmed the details to local media, as authorities launched a full-scale investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
According to neighbours, the family had been unusually quiet for approximately 48 hours prior to the discovery. The daughter-in-law, who worked in construction, had been unreachable by colleagues since 16th January, prompting initial concerns.
A neighbour, identified only as Mr N., aged 57, provided what may be the last known sighting of Mr V. “I saw him wearing a jacket near the village entrance around 16:00 hours on 16th January,” he stated. “When I called out to ask where he was going, he simply continued walking, head bowed, without responding.”
The family was described by local residents as living quietly, with no history of disputes. Mr V. was known in the community for his daily routine of bamboo weaving and caring for his elderly mother at their residence.
As of 19:30 hours, police had cordoned off the area surrounding the property while criminal investigators from Hanoi City Police, in coordination with Phu Xuyen District Police, conducted their enquiries. Meanwhile, local community members were observed making funeral preparations for the deceased.
Authorities have confirmed that the family’s eldest daughter, who works away from home, was not present at the time of the incident.
