4-12-2024 (BANGKOK) The father and partner of Russian actress Kamila Bilyatskaya have arrived on the Thai island of Ko Samui to conduct Buddhist funeral rites, following her tragic death after being swept from a clifftop by powerful waves during a yoga session.
The 24-year-old performer’s body was discovered on November 30 near Chaweng Noi Beach, approximately one kilometre from where she fell. Hotel staff alerted authorities after finding her remains washed ashore, with her boyfriend, Sergey, later confirming her identity.
In a heartbreaking turn of events, the young actress had been practicing yoga at Chaweng Viewpoint on November 29 when she was struck by unusually strong waves, leading to her fatal fall. The incident was captured on video, showing the moment she was overwhelmed by the surge before disappearing into the sea.
On Wednesday, her father Yevgeny joined Sergey to complete the necessary formalities at Ko Samui Hospital before transferring her remains to Wat Si Thaveep temple for a Buddhist ceremony. The family opted for an intimate service, requesting privacy during their time of mourning.
The tragedy has taken on an additional poignant dimension as Bilyatskaya and Sergey, partners of five years, had been planning their December wedding. Following the cremation, the family intends to scatter her ashes at sea, honouring her deep connection to the ocean.
Bilyatskaya had built a substantial social media following, regularly sharing her clifftop yoga sessions from Ko Samui on platforms including TikTok. The location where she lost her life was one she had visited frequently for her practice.
